Victim #1 had a history of psychosis. This patient was the first one to see a hallucination he named "The Man in the Mirror". Some other people, who all had a history of mental illness, also reported seeing something like Victim #1's description of him, and that they would never look into mirrors because of it.
When police investigated the home of Victim #1, they found pictures and videos of him eating what looked to be human meat. There was also evidence he was a potentially dangerous cult leader, according to the VHS tapes found in his home.
The tapes were described as "disturbing". There were multiple videos and pictures of Victim #1 carving symbols into his followers' skin, doing strange rituals, and burning his followers with candle wax.
The three followers of Victim #1's cult were extremely sad over his death, two of them even ending their own lives to join him, and recording it on tape. The third one's location is unknown, as if he disappeared right after Victim #1's death.
Victim #1's death was proved to not be a suicide. His body was so mangled that at first, it was hard to identify him. The murderer has not been caught yet, but it is suspected one of his followers killed him, possibly the missing one.

Victim #2 was an extremely mentally ill Catholic trans woman living with an unsupportive family. She planned to move out soon, since she could barely handle living this way. There was evidence found that when she was 17 years old, she bought cross-sex hormones online. From a chat she had with a friend online, she "couldn't handle living this way anymore".
Victim #2 believed that she was cursed by God, that she was a demon and deserved to die, and she would constantly harm herself with blades, that she would hide from her family because she knew they'd call her an "attention seeking faggot" if they found them.
Her mother did eventually notice she was on hormones right before her 18th birthday, however she didn't kick her out, but the abuse did get worse and her family would say she was an abomination to God, and that if she got arrested for getting hormones illegally, they wouldn't be bailing her out of jail.
Victim #2 couldn't see herself as a woman, but as a crossdressing man. Every time she would look in the mirror, her face would distort itself. Despite the fact most of the time, strangers would assume she was female, she was convinced everyone was lying to her as a sick joke. She would read threads from certain forums on the internet mocking people like her as a form of self harm, over and over again. She would spend most of her time on the internet.
Victim #2 started seeing "The Man in the Mirror" shortly after that. She couldn't understand why he was watching her, and when she looked in the mirror, she could only see him. She thought it was a curse from God for taking estrogen. Victim #2 assumed that her hallucination looking that way was also a reminder from God, a reminder that nobody saw her as a woman, only something similar to him, a monster. By this point, she became completely insane.
Her family was getting sick of her behavior and finally sent her to a psych ward, coincidentally, the same ward that all the other victims of "The Man in the Mirror" were sent to. She did get slightly better mentally in the end.
